- Sherlock Holmes: He is about 50 years old. He has got a small face and he is tall and thin. He is convinced of his own opinion. He is a detictive. He is the main character, he solves the crime.
- dr. Watson: Also about 50 years old. He is not very tall and a little bit chubby. He always listens to Sherlock. He always helps Sherlock, I don’t think he’s a doctor now. He tells the story in the book. He assists Sir Henry Baskerville.
- Sir Henry Baskerville: He is about 30 years old. He has got an normal posture. He has got to say uncle to Sir Charles Baskerville. He was a farmer, but now he is a baron. Stapleton wants to kill him, because he wants his fortune.
- mr. Stapleton. He is about 40 years old. He has also got a normal posture. He wants to get to his object at all costs. He was a teacher, but he is a butterflycatcher. He wants to get the Baskerville fortune. He is related to the Baskervilles, but he changed his name.
Scene of action
In the beginning it is set in Baker street (Sherlocks house). After that is set most of the time in the Baskerville castle.
Time of action
The story is set, at the time when Sir Arthur Conan Doyle lived. The whole story is played in one or two weeks.
Point of view
Dr. Watson is the narrator. He tells the story to us.
Explain Title
The hound of the Baskervilles, is a fairytale. But mr. Stapleton abuses this fairytale to kill Sir Charles, because he has got bad nerves. He also tries to kill Sir Henry, but that failes. The hound of the Baskervilles should be a dog who killed every Baskerville that came on the moor. It started with a cuse, caused by Hugo Baskerville
Plot
- dr. Mortimer comes to Sherlock Holmes,
- he meets Sir Henry Baskerville,
- Watson goes with Sir Henry to his castle,
- Watson reports all his things to Sherlock,
- Sherlock comes in the story and solves the crime.
Positieve werking
Voor mij heeft het eind een positieve werking, omdat het toen het spannendste was. Het begin vond ik een beetje saai
Meest aansprekende passage
De passage met de ontmaskering van “The hound of the Baskervilles” vond ik erg mooi, omdat het verhaal daar toch de hele tijd naar toe werkt.
Negatieve werking
Het stuk met de kennismakingen vond ik erg saai, want het duurt een hele tijd, terwijl je er niet heel veel aan had
Vergelijking
Ik kan dit boek nou niet echt met een andere film of boek vergelijken. Ik heb nog nooit zo’n verhaal gezien. Baantjer kan je er wel een beetje mee vergelijken, omdat daar ook mysteries worden opgelost.
Oordeel thema
Ik vond het wel een mooi thema, omdat je zelf ook aan speurwerk gaat doen. Je probeert zelf de dader al vast te stellen voordat Sherlock dat heeft gedaan.
Taalgebruik
Het taalgebruik vond ik normaal. Alleen dat van to-morrow vond ik raar. Dat komt denk ik doordat het boekje dat ik las zo’n 40 jaar geleden is gedrukt.
Eindoordeel
Ik vond het wel een leuk boek. Je deed zelf helemaal mee om het mysterie op te lossen. Dat was wel anders dan bij die boekjes uit de 3e en de 4e.
Cijfer
Dit boek krijgt van mij een 4. Ik vond het wel goed, maar net niet genoeg voor een 5.
Aanrader?!
Ik zou een ander dit boekje wel willen aanraden. Het is niet echt lang en je doet echt mee in het lezen.
