Title: Loser Takes All Author: Graham Greene Place and year of publication: London, Heinemann, 1955. Number of pages: 123 My Choice: I took this book because it wasn’t verry big and I don’t like reading. I also heard that Graham Greene is a good writer. Another motivation is that the book is a complete version so I was allowed to read it by my teacher. What’s the story about? The story is about a man called mr Bertram. Mr. Bertram is a man who doesn’t believe in luck and somebody who is going to marry for the seccond time. His girlfriend is named Cary. The first idea was to go on honeymoon in St. Luke’s, Maida Hill, and then two weeks in Bournemouth. But Mr. Herbert Dreuther, a director of Bertram’s firm, switches the wedding and honeymoon to Monte Carlo as he says that Bertram mustn’t give his beautiful young wife such a classical wedding. So the honeymoon is changed to Monte Carlo. But when mr Bertram discovers the fun of gambling in the Cassino he can’t let go. The first few times he loses but after a while he is beginning to make lots of money. First Cary thinks the Cassino is fun but after a while she hates it. This is the time that Mr. Bertram has to choose between Care and the big money. He gives al his profit to Some locals over there and he end right where he started. Persenal reaction I think it was a fun book to read. The story was a little bit cliché if you think about it, A man who’s got tho choose between his money and his girlfriend. But as a said it, It was a fun book. |
