The (main)characters:

Macon Leary: He is a very nice man who cares a lot of his family. In the begin of the story everything goes wrong. His wife left him and he broke his leg.



Sarah Leary: She is Macon’s wife.



Muriel Pritchett: She is a very nice woman. She likes to help people and in the story she helps Macon with his dog.



Alexander Prichett: He is Muriel’s son. He is an ill boy. He always has to go to the doctor.



Rose Leary: She is Macon’s sister. She also likes it to help people. She is very kind to everybody.



Charles Leary: He is Macon’s brother who lives with Rose and Porter.



Edward: Edward is Macon’s dog. At the start he bites and attack people because he wants to protect Macon but at the end of the story it’s a sweet dog who didn’t bite people anymore.



Summary:

One day everything started to go wrong. Sarah left her husband Macon and he was very sad about it. He loved Sarah so much and couldn’t see a future without her. Macon wrote travel guide books for people who hated travel. He also hated it when he had to travel but it was his work. He had to go to England for his job. He wanted to bring his dog to the place where the dog often went when Macon is on tour but this time the woman said that the dog couldn’t stay there because the last time he bit. Macon went to another place where he met Muriel Pritchett. She agreed and said that Edward could stay there. A few days later Macon came back and picked up his dog. Muriel told him that Macon could call her when he wanted his dog would be trained. The next day Macon broke his leg and because he was alone he couldn’t take care of himself. He went to his sister Rose and stayed there. Edward bite Macon too and Rose told Macon to call Muriel and ask for help. The next day Macon called Muriel and she was happy about it. She would come the next day. Muriel talked about herself and her life. She was divorced and had a son Alexander. Alexander was 7 years old. One day Sarah called Macon. She wanted to speak to him at the restaurant. Sarah told Macon that she wanted to divorced and told Macon that she had another man. Macon thougt the reason was that their son died. He was shot in his head on summercamp. But Sarah told him that wasn’t the reason and explained the whole story. When Macon and Muriel went to know eachother better they liked each other. Macon met her son Alexander. That night Macon slept by Muriel. They decided that he could stay there and he agreed. Macon had to go to France soon because of his job and Muriel asked him if she could come with him. He didn’t give answer. 2 weeks later Sarah called him. She asked Macon if she could stay in their old house and Macon agreed. Macon also went back to his old house. Then he had to go to France. When he sat in the plane he saw Muriel. He was shocked. When he was in the hotel Muriel came and asked if he wanted to go to dinner that night but Macon said no. A few days later Sarah also came to France and Macon told her Muriel also was in France and that he couldn’t understand it. Macon also was worried about Alexander. Muriel said to Macon that they had to stay 2 weeks more for vacations because he needed that. One day Muriel had to go home, Macon packed his bag too. Sarah asked him what he was doing. He said that he had to go back because of the house but Sarah knew that he made the choice to go back with Muriel. Macon went home with Muriel and they lived together with Alexander.



My opinion:

I liked the book because it’s a story that also can happen in real life. I also liked it that it have a happy end. I never thought that because everything went wrong for Macon but at the end everything is fine and he is happy.
