Juliet wakes up sees that her beloved is dead and uses Romeo's knife to kill herself. The Montague's and Capulet's reconcile. Point of view narrator Since there is more then one narrator in this play it is hard to find a point of view. The chorus however introduces the tragic nature of the play to us. Characters Romeo Montague is in the beginning of the play a disappointed men because of his prior relationship with Rosalin. He is no longer the social person he ones was. When he meets Juliet this is restored. Romeo's passion for Juliet makes him unpractical. He doesn't take time to arrange the marriage properly, for if he had the ending of the play might have been less dramatic. He hastily runs of to Verona after hearing the news of Juliet's death. Whereas he had waited a bit more he would have heard from friar Laurence in time. However his passion for Juliet does allow him to give himself completely to Juliet. Juliet Capulet: During the play she evolves from an obedient fourteen-year-old girl into a strong woman. She is more practical then Romeo and she is also a very honest girl. The only reason why she secretly elopes with Romeo is because she needs to be true to her hart. Friar Laurence: Romeo and Juliet confide in him during the play. Although he is a holly man it is strange that he provides Juliet of poison as the solution to her problems. However his intentions were probably good. Mr and Ms Capulet: We do not get to know these characters very well but I can say that MS Capulet's relation ship with Juliet is not a " normal" one. Juliet's mother in the play is actually her nurse who has raised her. Juliet trusts the nurse even with her secret of loving a Montague. Mr Capulet just wants to give his daughter a proper life with her suitor Count Paris. Mr and Ms Montague: Are also characters in the play, which we know little about. Like the Capulet's they seem more understanding towards the relationship of Romeo and Juliet at the end of the play. Mercurtio and Benvolio: They are Romeo's loyal friends. During the play they even get into fights for him. Romeo's friendship with Mercurtio is a very deep one as Romeo kills Tybalt to avenge Mercurtio's death. Appreciation I liked the book although I sometimes did have a hard time understanding all the old English words. I found it helpful to watch the video of Romeo and Juliet as to understanding the book better. |
